As promised, we are finally sharing all of the places we rented while building our house. To start things off we thought we would share The Birchwood Cottage with you, a beautifully designed boutique cottage nestled on the gorgeous Kennisis Lake in Haliburton, Ontario!
We stayed at The Birchwood for 5 days and we will have memories for a lifetime with the kiddos, from cooking together, soaking in the hot tub, playing board games, snow shoeing to roasting marshmallows under the stars & constellations. This Haliburton gem is quite the retreat and it is definitely a spot we will return to!
This boutique cottage has 3 bedrooms, 4 beds (one is a bunk bed as pictured below) and 2 bathrooms. There’s a great kitchen with every thing you’d need (including a blender), a large living area with a wood burning fireplace and a funky dining space. It has a great property with a hot tub and fire pit, woohoo!!! It was so nice to enjoy a hot tub on the colder days and enjoy the beautiful view of the frozen lake. We tried to organize some ice fishing but sadly it didn’t work out, maybe next time!
While The Birchwood is a boutique cottage, don’t feel like it is too luxury for cottage country. As soon as you walk in you feel cozy and relaxed, the space oozes comfort! The owners Ryan & Blair designed it all themselves and did a great job. We’ve bonded over a love of design and essential oils and have been chatting every day since!
A discreet frame tv is in the living space, it blends in perfectly with the design isn’t distracting from family time or great conversation. We barely watched tv and mostly just told stories and played board games from the selection they have available/ We watched a few shows after the kids went to bed but we saved our movie night for one of the bedrooms that has a massive tv in it. We all snuggled up and it was the sweetest evening!
The Birchwood is definitely a year round retreat. Sunshine pours through the large windows and all of the rooms have great bedding to keep you cozy in the winter. Summer I am sure is full of magic at this location, it has great privacy too from all of the mature trees on the lot!
The drive was lovely, it’s still cold here in Ontario but sunny and Haliburton is honestly such a great area. I would absolutely buy a cottage here one day!
All of the bathrooms in this cottage are beautifully designed and so clean. I love the oversized HBC towels and wood work on the walls! This photo above is part of the master ensuite.
The photo above is of part of the Master bedroom, I LOVE the bed they chose for this space because I am such a sucker for canopies. What you don’t see in this photo are the beautiful large windows and sliding doors that open on to the deck, this is such a great space to wake up in!
On our last day at the cottage we decided to go back to Abbey Gardens for some snow shoeing and to visit their gorgeous horses. I snapped a quick photo of one of them as you’ll see below, such sweet animals they are!
Abbey Gardens is seriously amazing, we stocked up on all of our groceries for our stay here – things like local maple syrup, honey, coffee, bread, fresh pie and so much more. They even mill their own flours! We highly recommend checking them out for a snow shoe hike if you of during the winter.
If you are looking for a boutique cottage for your family getaway or for a nice romantic weekend, we highly recommend The Birchwood Cottage! I can’t wait to check it out during the warmer months when you can jump off of their dock into the lake and soak up the sun.
The hosts will take great care of you and make sure your stay is perfect, they actually own two rentals in the area if you have friends looking for one too! You can learn more about their rentals HERE.
