It’s been awhile since we’ve put together a Bliss List for you guys but first off, we want to talk about the Wildfires in Australia. They’ve been heavy on our hearts and I found it difficult to share any content over the last week while the fires were taking over and stealing the lives of so many innocent animals, homes and all of the suffering. Please take a moment to do your research and learn how you can help.
ONE
Wildlife Rescue. In WIRES history we have never seen a concurrent series of emergencies events like those that began in November. Hundreds of fires over weeks have burnt over 4.9 million hectares of land in NSW alone. Many animals were already struggling with a lack of water and food due to the drought. With the fires destroying unprecedented amounts of habitat, food shortages have increased and lack of suitable habitat will be a significant long-term challenge for surviving wildlife.
It is impossible to know how many animals have perished and it will be many months before the impact on wild populations can be better understood but ecologists at Sydney University have estimated over 800 million animals have been affected in NSW and over 1 billion animals in Australia since September.
WIRES have been serving wildlife and the community for over 30 years and we are Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation. WIRES is dedicated to the protection and preservation of native animals. We provide wildlife information and education to the community nationally and we’re licenced to rescue and care for wildlife in NSW. Visit https://www.wires.org.au/ to help out!

Speaking of helping the wildlife in Australia, I had to share the most adorable project by a 6 year old philanthropist in the making named Owen.
Some ideas start off small and, in this case, at a young age. A 6-year-old Massachusetts boy concerned about koalas impacted by the Australian fires is using his heart and his hands to help.
If you donate $50, you’ll get a koala. Of course, all donations are welcome. The GoFundMe page has raised more than $20,000 in just a couple of days. So far, Australia’s fires have killed more than a billion animals.

Have you ever thought about growing your kids a playhouse? Yes, you read that right! We stumbled upon an article recently on The Hearty Soul blog about growing your littles a living playhouse and we are completely obsessed…counting down the days until summer, starting now. This wonderful article talks about the connection for kids with their food and the importance of teaching them about the world of gardening. You guys know how much our kids love gardening with us so I couldn’t be more connected to this wonderful writer, enjoy the read!

We’ve been basically vegan since the first week of December around here and as much as the shift can be difficult at first, it has been so rewarding. We all feel amazing, more energy, clearer skin, less upset stomachs…the list truly goes on. It was Ella that actually started cutting out meats last year, she made a conscious choice in the summer to stop eating beef & pork and it continued from there. She never once went against her decision and we have been in such awe of her commitment. If cutting out meat from your family’s diet is something you are struggling with I recommend slowly cutting down first, that is how we did it and it worked very well for us. You will be pleasantly surprised with how amazing food tastes without animal products – take some time one Sunday if you can to get creative in the kitchen as a family. Browse some cookbooks in the bookstore aisles, hunt through Pinterest posts and countless vegan blogs. We’ve all been testing the animal-free products for you ha! One of our favourite vegan meals right now is our creamy mushroom soup, I shared the recipe on my Instagram IGTV and so many are enjoying it. Try it out if you haven’t already, you can find here {here}!
That is amazing you guys have made the shift to being vegan and good for Ella! I love reading stories about children changing the minds of their parents. We recently made the change too, slowly but surely we will be 100% vegan.
