Welcome to our Loveliest Looks Of Christmas Tour, sponsored by Pottery Barn and hosted by Summer Adams & A Blissful Nest! We’re so glad you’re here to join this talented group of bloggers as we share our winter fashion and Christmas decor with you.
Today I am sharing a few images of my holiday decor for this year, we just got started “decking the halls” this weekend and the kids are loving it! I get right into it for the holidays, I have my Frank Sinatra Christmas music record playing or some Michael Bublé. There is more dancing around the home, more baking and more giggling this time of year and it’s so infectious to me!
We started with these faux fur stockings in the colour Alpaca from Pottery Barn, they give a nice luxe feel with a neutral colour that you can pair with your existing decor or new pieces. You can actually get these beautiful stockings personalized but we opted to keep them as is for this year, I love the minimalist look without the writing on them for now. We styled them on one of our fireplaces with a fresh 14 foot Magnolia garland we made during the week, I have to say that it was SO fun working with fresh magnolia leaves this week but if you are living in a colder climate like us and have your furnace on – you may want to opt for artificial. Our garland has started to crumple and curl and I don’t see it lasting another couple of weeks – lesson learned haha! Either make your garland within 48 hours of using it or opt for artificial, Pottery Barn actually carries a stunning Magnolia leaf garland {here} and another one that is pre-lit {here}. I believe we are sharing a DIY tutorial for this fresh garland on the blog later this month if you want to try it out.
Gatsby of course wanted to steal the show on his new faux fur personalized dog bed that matches the stockings, he is IN LOVE with his new dog bed!!! So let’s just say Gatsby got his Christmas gift early haha, if you’re looking to spoil your furry friend you can find this faux fur dog bed {here}.
I am still trying to decide how to decorate our library wall, since painting it white it is definitely easier to style than when it was all a soft blue. My Christmas records are out and I think I will style in some small wrapped gifts, nutcrackers of different sizes and perhaps some fresh wreaths or bows – you know me and my bows & fresh greenery! We have fresh plants all through our home and I love incorporating them into my holiday decor. I’ve also been trying to decide how to style our kitchen stools this year, last year we did fresh wreaths with mini snow shoes and this year I am picturing red velvet bows or plaid ones and eucalyptus wreaths…what do you think? On my Instagram stories most of you voted for wreaths again this year on them!
A hot chocolate bar was at the top of my to-do list for the kids this year to get them into the holiday spirit (not that it is hard to do). We had our first heavy snowfall last week and we’ve already been tobogganing in our backyard and building snowmen. That first snowfall instantly had them excited for the Christmas season! Pottery Barn sent us each a Holiday Plaid Mug with our initials on it – the kids love having a hot chocolate & snuggle to warm up with us after playing outside in the snow. Aren’t the mugs and the gingerbread houses beautiful? A friend of mine Stacie of Sugar Love Cookie Designs made us the adorable gingerbread houses that hug our coffee mugs, she is so incredibly talented! When the kids and I make our gingerbread houses every year they look nothing like this haha, but every year we are getting better I swear.
We make our own marshmallows at home, I shared a yummy recipe a few years ago on the blog where we sweeten ours with good ol’ Canadian maple syrup, check out the recipe {here}. We make our marshmallows into so many different shapes like hearts and even dinosaurs!
Last year I kept both of our flocked trees naked, I loved the look of the bare flocked tree and a chunky knit tree skirt. We usually do a real tree every year, we buy it at the same tree farm where we were married…the same tree farm where we traditionally bought our Christmas tree every year prior to our wedding actually! But last year we went faux flocked. I love the tradition of picking out a real tree and I have since I was little, I love the search for the tree, the smell, the mess and the experience is fun for the kiddos too! This year we will be decorating one of our flocked trees and leaving one flocked bare again. We will getting a real one too though and I’m hoping to actually pot our real tree after we get it and then transplant it outside! Email or comment below and let us know if you’ve done this before, temperatures drop quite cold here in Canada but wishfully it works out. I will be sharing our decorated flocked tree on the blog later this month, so for now that is all you get to see of it. You can find a similar artificial tree {here} though and it’s also on sale right now!
I am finishing off this mini peak into our home this holiday season in my new cozy faux fur robe from Pottery Barn with my matching faux fur slippers, the fun part about working from home is that I will probably stay in these all day. Wouldn’t you? xo
Special thanks to our friends at Pottery Barn for providing us with the items we’ve featured today!
