Our Laundry Room with Home Depot

So excited to share some progress on the new house with you guys and today I am sharing where we are at with our laundry room, a fun space we’ve collaborate with Home Depot Canada on! Today is #NationalLaundryDay so we thought what better day than today for this progress reveal?! It’s been so nice to work with such a great company that puts a big focus on helping people like Craig and myself, busy parents with day jobs haha get the work done on our own and with quality materials. The space of course isn’t finished yet but we wanted to share it as is with you, the sink isn’t even attached 110% yet and we haven’t even sealed the grout on the floor or caulked around the sink etc haha so keep that in mind – this is just a progress post!

We are using Silestone quartz all through our house so it was so perfect that Home Depot is a Silestone supplier! We are loving this matte Calacatta Gold stone in our laundry room and how great it paired with the REAL copper sink, so much so that you may see it in some more of the reveals of our home to come. Check out some of the Silestone countertop options from Home Depot on their website {here}, but I strongly suggest going in store to see all of their countertop options – it’s much better to go in and touch & feel the different materials. I especially love the Dekton line Home Depot carries, if we end up doing a countertop outside this summer it will 110% be Dekton from Home Depot!

You guys know I enjoy a good challenge to transform a small space into a functional one and this challenge was just as interesting as my last one (the office in our previous house)! This laundry space is less than 100 square feet and under our stairs that heads to the mudroom. I didn’t want to move our laundry room in this new house as I found it to be a perfect spot, we already have a separate mudroom that will be dedicated to our excess shoe collection (the case in a family of 4) and so we truly didn’t need much room for laundry. I of course made the walls a nice Behr white to open it up and we incorporated our love of shiplap on the walls too! After we did our shiplap wall we made our own wooden accent shelves, one to go over the boxed in plumbing and one for decorative items on the wall. I have a thing for industrial pipes incorporated into decor, in our last house we did our own shelves in Noah’s bedroom with copper pipe and chalkboard shelves and so this time we used black iron threaded pipe and cut a wooden shelf to fit and stained it a golden natural colour to suit the copper accents. If you do not have the time to make your own shelves I actually found this pre made one on the Home Depot website!!! Speaking of industrial, the ceiling light fixture was on sale when we were browsing the HD aisles – we found {this one} in the antique bronze finish I wanted and it was on for $80!!! Right now it’s on for $109 which is still a great price for lighting and it’s SO bright for only 2 bulbs – these photos I took were during a rainy day and as you know the room is under stairs which says a lot about the amount of light it has. While browsing the aisles I also found a ton of decorative pieces for the space and of course more plants lol – you know me and my plants, so I also stocked up on tropical soil for all of my new greenery too!

Every single material needed to transform a space can be found at Home Depot, we had to literally gut this entire space to studs and redo all of the plumbing and drywall etc and we found it all at our local HD, perhaps a handy husband would help 😉 unless you are handy yourself!. And of course we left with more, Craig always seems to find a tool he must have on sale during our visits lol. I swear he plans this ahead of time and just “happens” to find the tool he’s been looking for at a huge discounted rate! You can check their weekly flyer online {here} to see what tools are on sale!

I was pretty adamant to have a busy floor for the laundry and our laundry flooring had to match our mudroom flooring since this space is going to be about 6-7 steps below it. Home Depot has a a great range of flooring, I loved their faux wood tiles in a variety of colours as well as their mini white octagon tiles with the odd black one within the grid. Check out some of the flooring options from Home Depot online {here}.

Picking appliances for our laundry room was super easy with the help of the knowledgeable staff in stores, once again we loved going in and opening & closing the machines (as silly as that sounds) and learning about which machines were best for our lifestyles…steam or no steam? Top loaders or front loaders? We of course went for front loaders because we enjoy that style of machine and because of the amount of space we were working with. I wanted more counter space for folding etc so we knew we wanted under counter options. We are yet to use these machines as the water isn’t hooked up yet and we aren’t moved in BUT we had these exact same ones in our last house and LOVED them. It made it easy when reading some reviews on the Home Depot website and checking out machines in store, we ended up right back at this house and bought them…they had them delivered within the week! You can find our Whirlpool washer {here} and our dryer {here}.

Another thing that made this project helpful was how family friendly it can be, you wouldn’t think this of a hardware store but when your local Home Depot has race car shaped shopping carts for kids to sit in and feel like they are driving it’s a saving grace I tell you!!! This made it SO much easier for us to shop for what we needed with two kids in tow (not easy). Anyone with kids knows that it’s basically impossible to have a conversation with your significant other without being interrupted 100 times lol so picking things from grout to faucets can often take a half an hour to debate and decide. Correct me if I’m wrong of course though LOL! All in all we are so happy with the look of the laundry room so far and plan to update you on the final look once our new stairs are in and we’ve put up the final DIY touches – we are envisioning more iron pipe features perhaps under the stairs as a hanging feature for clothing since the space under the stairs (beside the washer) doesn’t leave much room for storage and wouldn’t have the easiest access anyways. We figured we would just have the laundry basket below and a hanging feature from the staircase base to hang clothing to dry 🙂 since our new stairs will also be closed in. I’d love to know what you guys think of our Laundry Room reveal!

When we set eyes on this apron sink at Home Depot we HAD to have it! We debated going for a white wall mounted one for a vintage look but I mean, look at this one – it’s so unique and we needed something under 30″. This sink is 25″ and Craig custom made a base for it. We painted it a lovely shade of grey by Behr and painted the gables around the washer & dryer to match. I wanted to do something different for our laundry room, originally my vision was black, whites, , woods, navy & brass (surprise, surprise lol), but in the end we went for greys, whites, blacks & copper with wood accents of course. You can see the staircase still there overhead in the space in this photo above. We have new stairs being installed over the next two weeks so we haven’t finished the left hand side of the space…all in good time haha!

1. Pull-Out Faucet | 2. Copper Sink | 3. Stone Pitcher | 4. Wood & Pipe Shelf

Before…

During the transformation…1. White & Black Octagon Tile  | 2. Marble Hexagon Tile| 3. White & Grey Octagon Tile | 4. Wood Porcelain Floor & Wall Tile

My favourite black faucet from Home Depot is sold out right now online so you may have to hunt the stores to find it! They also have a beautiful pull down black faucet but it’s sold out too lol!!! The good ones do not last!!! If you did a white sink however you could do a nice stainless steel pull down faucet like the one I linked to above, they honestly are the best for functionality (this time I went aesthetics over functionality lol).
