Even before planning our wedding I knew when the time came it would incorporate a ton of DIY elements, an outdoor vibe was very important to me and I had always envisioned a greenhouse full of succulents & florals for a reception. We were lucky enough to find a lovely local tree farm with a bare greenhouse that made for the perfect blank canvas and we made sure to keep natural touches as well as incorporating wood for the location. My mother in law has a passion for wedding decor so when I showed her my plethra of Pinterest inspirations and my vision we immediately got to work at sourcing decor pieces and planning. I loved the idea of a salvaging a lot of the clarity of a greenhouse and avoided covering any of the glass with backdrops, the LOVE sign we rented from Bliss in Toronto made for the perfect statement piece above the head table and I only wish we had some evening photos for you. When the sun went down and the string lights filled the roof of the greenhouse they opened it partially to expose the star filled sky and the Love sign just BEAMED, it was truly magical!! I was determined to have a loveseat for Craig and I to sit on at the head table and searched high & low for the perfect vintage floral piece to suit the look, we found this one on Kijiji a mere three weeks before the wedding and I am still so in love with it! I’ve always loved the idea of a guest from each table going home with a keepsake from our wedding and in the hopes of incorporating our venues vibe we used a plant stand to hold a potted fiddle leaf fig per table for the seating chart. You’ll see in the images that we also used popsicle sticks and wrote our guests names on them, this is how they found their tables and the guest with the greenest thumb at each table got to take their own fiddle leaf fig home to “let love grow”. We brought our two fiddle leaf trees to the reception and they sat on each side of the entrance so guests could see what their potted leaf could grow & become…it was a hit! I found myself so drawn to tent weddings on Pinterest with florals hanging from the ceiling and chandeliers and so we hung some of my mother in laws chandeliers and ferns and a ton of florals on soft pink & gold ribbon from the ceiling…I was in awe with the result and it was so worth the time we all spent doing it! We wanted an elegant yet simple look with golds, black & white and I wanted hints of pink hues from a pastel pink to corals…it couldn’t have turned out more perfect in my eyes. We were so blessed to have an amazing bridal party and our families to make this day every thing we imagined! Ella still talks about the wedding and tells our friends about how she danced under the sky of flowers, it sounds so fairy tale like and that is exactly how it felt. The speeches of course brought us to tears, my maid + matron of honour even made a fun game out of their speeches that guests are still talking about. I can’t leave out the desserts!! Every thing at our dessert table was hand made by friends & family from apple pie pops my mother in law and I made to cheesecakes, cookies from aunts and fresh butter tarts…every last dessert was gone in minutes! Our custom wedding cake will be on the blog last week and it’s another post I am totally giddy about ahhh!!!
What a beautiful wedding!! I love how the flowers are hanging from the ceiling, and you and your family look so happy!
